My Credentials:

I am a native English speaker and counsellor working in mental health. Drawing on the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I have been active in the fields of behavioral health and education in New York City since obtaining my accreditation as a Licensed Master of Social Work in 2020 through the Association of Social Work Boards. I hold a Master of Social Work from Columbia University.

My professional background encompasses substance abuse counselling, social services, psychotherapy, and case management. Among my specialties are anxiety and panic disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), drug addiction, and anger management. I primarily treat adults.

I have also worked extensively with severe mental illnesses, including Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder I & II. In my experience, every client who comes for counselling has a treatable condition, no matter how severe their presentation may be at first.

My Approach:

Feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to begin? Welcome! Recognizing that you need help in a world where mental health is often stigmatized is not only the first step – it’s often the most difficult one.

My strategy is to offer you a supportive and confidential environment to find practical solutions to your behavioral health problems. Starting on day one, I listen carefully to every concern you have and integrate it into my client-centered approach. I draw on motivational interviewing principles to help you not only overcome any lingering hesitation you may have regarding counselling but also to assist with clarifying your desired outcome for treatment.

Each session is structured around goals and objectives you have identified using a personalized service plan. During our time together, we’ll use CBT to explore dysfunctional beliefs and habits that limit your ability to respond constructively to problems in your work, social life, or relationships. Our sessions are forward-looking. While your past is important and will help me build a clinical profile during our first session (especially when it concerns trauma), change occurs in the present. Each objective we set will be specific and measurable, meaning that you’ll be able to observe progress towards your goals within several weeks.

I typically recommend that sessions last one hour for maximum benefit. However, shorter sessions are possible after your intake if this creates a barrier to getting help. Consistency matters the most.

Whether it’s wanting to become less timid or learning how to manage emotional instability, the best counselling is grounded in respect for every client’s desire to lead their lives as they find meaningful. I am happy to be your guide and partner on your journey toward wellness.

About Me:

Whenever I have a free moment, I love visiting museums, zoos, and botanical gardens. If unable to roam about, I read creative nonfiction and history. Languages are my passion; in addition to English, I speak German and intermediate French, although I currently do not offer counselling in either language. All this is to say that lifelong learning is one of the best forms of self-care there is!

Summary:

I am a native English-speaking counsellor providing online counselling for adults, offering support with a wide range of behavioural health difficulties through CBT.

Overall

Happy to have found Roy. I appreciate that he works in a structured and goal-focused way, and that he manages the session so that I don't have to watch the clock or rush at the end. He has made some very insightful and compassionate comments that I've found very affirming, and he clearly has a deep respect for his patients. I particularly appreciate his ability to "get" the situation I'm talking about, without requiring excessive explanation - every time I share something and he reflects his understanding back to me, I feel seen and supported, like I'm no longer carrying the problem alone. That's already a huge relief, but on top of that he is also good at providing practical suggestions to help me handle things, in a very thoughtful and personalised application of CBT principles. Would absolutely recommend booking with him if you're thinking about it, one of the most grounded and effective therapists I've interacted with.
