Hi! My name is Lorena. I graduated as a clinical psychologist over 15 years ago, but I will tell you a little bit more about myself below. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and EMDR/trauma expert, working with adults and teenagers.
My clients have often tried to avoid conflict and fighting in their relationships with relatives, friends, partners… and even with themselves, eventually blowing up at each other and developing a difficult pattern. Most of them have dealt with a history of trauma, survival, or abuse, but they don’t even know it, as we all choose a particular narrative to help ease the pain or the feeling of not belonging.
The therapeutic process is not time bound, as each of us is unique, but I will adapt to your needs and pace, helping you to realize what you unconsciously (or consciously!) keep quiet and hide.
I offer an effective therapy called EMDR, based on trauma theory, as well as a holistic approach based on therapies that are adapted to the current needs of our society, and for this, I use creativity, as well as scientifically proven approaches. As I told you above, I graduated two decades ago, but my background has been more in criminology and criminal justice than in a clinical population. It wasn’t until about 7 years ago, when I was living in NYC, that I realized how neglected the victims of violent crime, abuse, and neglect are from a variety of perspectives. I did a 180-degree turn in my life, went back to college to renew my knowledge of clinical psychology, and trained in the latest therapies. I became interested in trauma theory and trained as an expert in EMDR, which I believe is an outstanding and powerful therapeutic approach.
I have worked as a psychologist and criminologist in penitentiary institutions, private investigation agencies, and psychology offices, which has given me a broad and enriching scope. If you allow me to get a bit more personal, I have also lived in the USA for over 10 years, which has made me particularly attached to NYC. This experience, without a doubt, helps me especially to understand what many of my clients are going through in Madrid and elsewhere in Spain because, despite the excitement of moving to a new place, the challenges sometimes outweigh the expectations of reinventing yourself and starting a new life.
I am an English-speaking clinical psychologist and EMDR/trauma expert, offering both in-person and online therapy to young adults and teenagers.
The most important thing is not what university I graduated from or even my training, but you and the process that is about to begin, which will turn around the way you experience your life and how you deal with difficulties. I will give you the right tools, but the change will ultimately come from your hard work. Life can lead us to take paths that force us to survive and disconnect from ourselves and others, so I put my focus on translating your distress to help you make clear decisions in the future and feel connected again with who you are and the people around you.
My job is to be the calming center while you struggle with negative patterns, high conflict, and grief and eventually grow.
Contact me for a free phone consultation, so you can sense whether I’m the best fit for you, and we’ll start your journey together.
