I hold an Associate’s Degree from Florida International University, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology – Clinical Track, and a Master of Arts in Psychology with an emphasis in Counseling. I am a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern (#IMH27243) and a member of the Nederlands Institute van Psychologen (NIP #246539). These qualifications reflect both my commitment to the profession and to providing ethical, client-focused care.
As your therapist or coach, my goal is to guide you in uncovering the parts of yourself that are ready for healing, growth, or rediscovery. I create a safe, supportive space where we can work together to foster change and empowerment. I work with a wide range of clients, but I am especially dedicated to supporting women, multicultural individuals, immigrants, minorities, and people of color. My professional training, combined with my personal journey, gives me insight into the unique challenges they face. Within the therapeutic relationship, I strive to build community, confidence, and belonging. My style is flexible and down-to-earth. I integrate methods like CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing, while also drawing on approaches such as Existential Therapy to explore life’s big questions, Gestalt Therapy to connect thoughts, feelings, and actions, and Feminist Theory to examine how social pressures shape our lives. Adlerian Theory helps uncover the impact of insecurity and comparison, Psychodynamic Therapy allows for deeper exploration of patterns, and Multicultural Counseling ensures your cultural background is honored as central to your identity.
My name is Julie De Freitas, and I’m an American-born, Brazilian-bred therapist now based in the Netherlands, offering virtual therapy. I call myself the Thera-Sis—a name that reflects my blend of support, empowerment, and clinical insight. Raised in South Florida by Brazilian immigrant parents, I grew up surrounded by many cultures, races, and languages. From an early age I developed an appreciation for multiculturalism and an understanding of what it means to hold multiple identities. When I moved to the Netherlands, I experienced firsthand what it feels like to be both an immigrant and a minority. I know how differences can sometimes be used against us, making us feel small or diminished. But I also believe that our diversity is a source of strength. Because of my own experiences with multiple minority identities, I feel deeply connected to helping others—especially women and multicultural individuals—find their voice, confidence, and full potential.
I am an English-speaking Psychologist and Counsellor in Leiden, The Netherlands, offering online-only sessions to adults (18+). I bring together professional expertise, multicultural experience, and a passion for empowerment. My work is guided by the belief that you are the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you with compassion, clinical insight, and encouragement as you rediscover your strengths, embrace your identity, and move toward growth and healing.
