I am Maria Giulia Coccia, a Psychologist and Gestalt Psychotherapist in training at the International Institute of Psychopathology and Gestalt Psychotherapy (IPsiG). My work is grounded in the principles of Gestalt therapy, which emphasise awareness, authentic contact, and the integration of emotional, cognitive, and bodily experience, always considering the ground an individual comes from.
I have worked in therapeutic and residential settings with individuals facing dual diagnoses, such as psychiatric disorders and addiction, conducting group and individual sessions focused on psychological support and social reintegration. This experience has deepened my understanding of emotional suffering, relational dynamics, and the transformative potential of human connection. I work with adults, adolescents, and couples, addressing anxiety, depression, addictions, low self-esteem, personality and relational difficulties, distress, and panic attacks. My sessions offer a space of presence and acceptance, where every story can be listened to and shared without judgment. I consider therapy a co-created journey, a safe place where new perspectives can emerge and transformation can take shape. I work both in-person and online, in Italian and English, to accompany individuals toward greater awareness, balance, and personal growth.
Alongside my clinical training, I hold a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Bath (UK) and have taught Psychology and Behavioural Genetics at university level. My academic background enriches my therapeutic perspective, allowing me to integrate scientific insight into emotional processes with a deeply human, experiential approach to care.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in Gestalt and phenomenological principles. I see each person as a whole, a unique and evolving individual whose experience cannot be separated from their emotions, body, and environment. My work focuses on contact, awareness, and the relationship that emerges in the “here and now.” Through this process, clients can explore how they relate to themselves and others, giving new meaning to their experiences and developing greater authenticity and self-understanding
I accompany people who feel the need to reconnect with themselves, navigate challenging moments, or learn to better listen to what is happening inside and around them. I believe that genuine change arises from awareness and dialogue rather than from predefined goals or techniques. The therapeutic process unfolds step by step, within an authentic and supportive relationship.
I value curiosity, creativity, and connection in my life. Music, cinema, and books are my constant companions, shaping the way I see the world and inspiring me every day. I have a strong passion for philosophy, especially phenomenology, an epistemological ground that keeps Gestalt Therapy rooted in lived experience and authentic presence within the relational field. I love backpacking, especially across Asia, where every place, flavour, and encounter becomes part of the story. I really enjoy spending time in nature, hiking, camping, or just being outdoors helps me feel grounded and recharged.
Although I now live in Torino, I feel a deep connection to my hometown, Rome, and its vibrant culture, from the lively streets to its beloved food traditions, which I always love to celebrate and share. I also enjoy spending time with others, whether it’s exploring new places, having long conversations, or sharing good meals.
I am an English-speaking psychologist and psychotherapist in Turin, Italy, offering both in-person and online individual and couple therapy in Italian and English. My work, rooted in Gestalt principles, supports adults and adolescents in developing awareness, authenticity, and emotional balance.
