I’m Alessandro Lao, a licensed clinical psychologist registered with the Order of Psychologists of Piedmont in Italy (no. 11931). I’m currently training as a psychotherapist at the Gestalt Psychotherapy School IBTG in Turin. I completed my academic studies at IUSTO University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Developmental Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical and Community Psychology.
As a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist in training, my approach is grounded in Gestalt psychotherapy—a model that values the integration of mind, body, emotions, and environment in the present moment. Gestalt therapy emphasizes awareness, personal responsibility, and authentic contact with oneself and others. I aim to create a therapeutic space where clients feel seen, heard, and accepted. Together, we explore thoughts, emotions, and behaviors as they arise in the here and now, helping individuals reconnect with their inner resources and move toward meaningful change. At IBTG, I’m deepening my clinical skills through a combination of phenomenological-existential theory and experiential practice. I’m developing competencies in clinical interviewing, psychological counseling, and group dynamics—essential tools in working with both individuals and groups. Each session is tailored to the client’s unique experience, with the goal of fostering awareness, empowerment, and self-acceptance. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, or simply seeking greater self-understanding, I offer a supportive and respectful environment where we can work together with presence and compassion.
I was born and raised in Turin, Italy. My journey into psychology began unexpectedly, after starting down a very different path. But I quickly realized it was the right one. What continues to draw me in is the opportunity to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and ways of life—an ongoing curiosity that shapes my work in therapy. During my university years, I began personal therapy with a Gestalt psychotherapist. Though it was initially frustrating, the experience soon became deeply meaningful and transformative. That encounter inspired me to choose Gestalt as the foundation of my own therapeutic approach, and it’s why I’m currently training at the Gestalt Institute of Turin. My personal and professional experiences often extend beyond Italy’s borders, which led me to offer therapy in English as well. It’s a way for me to grow, broaden my perspective, and connect with people from different parts of the world. I also aim to support those living in Italy who may feel more comfortable seeking psychological support in English.
I’m a licensed, English-speaking clinical psychologist based in Turin, Italy, and a psychotherapist in training at the Gestalt Psychotherapy School IBTG. I offer both in-person and online therapy sessions to individuals (18+) and couples.
My practice is rooted in Gestalt therapy, which focuses on awareness, self-responsibility, and present-moment experience. I work to create a safe, respectful space for clients to explore themselves and foster change. Originally from Turin, I was drawn to psychology through personal experience and continue to be inspired by human connection. I also offer therapy in English, supporting clients from international and multicultural backgrounds.
